Recent Activities
RAR members look beyond our own establishments to promote responsible
alcohol consumption. We are active in the community, providing
additional services to promote safe drinking. Some of our recent
activities include:
Bars Program:
All active RAR members participate in an ID compliance-check
training service. Subsidized by TEAM Fort Collins, the ID checking
service ensures that staff are consistently and accurately checking
IDs for patrons under 30 years of age by randomly visiting the
respective stores, bars, and restaurants. A green and red card
system is used to indicate whether the server performed the
ID compliance check according to policy. Management is notified
of the results and action is taken to reward or better train
employees. In using an ID checking service, RAR members are
taking ID compliance- check training one step further by creating
a culture that makes checking IDs the norm. All stores, bars,
and restaurants selling age-sensitive products have a policy
in place to check IDs, but the BARS program makes it much more
likely that the staff adhere to the policy.
Safe Ways Home:
To ensure that their patrons get home safely, RAR members actively
promote and publicize alternatives to drinking and driving.
One program that all on-premise RAR members participate in is
SMART RIDE, which is supported by the PVH Hospital Foundation.
SMART RIDE is designed to reward individuals who volunteer to
be a sober designated driver for the group that they accompany.
Rewards vary by establishment, but most include free non-alcoholic
drinks and a coupon for discounted menu items on their next
visit. For patrons who have not assigned a designated driver,
RAR members actively provide information about other safe ways
to get home. A wallet card including phone numbers and destination
information for commercial and public transportation are available
in obvious locations within each establishment and are personally
handed out by staff. Patron safety is a top priority for RAR
members.
Server Trainings:
Officer Bob Younger, Fort Collin's Alcohol Compliance Enforcement
Officer, provides regular RAR exclusive trainings, to ensure
that RAR staff is knowledgeable about the diverse set of issues
involved in serving alcohol. Examples of topics include identifying
and managing intoxicated patrons, recognizing fake IDs, etc.
Officer Younger provides trainings often to accommodate staff
turnover that is typical in the food service industry.
